Solar for farms: SEAI 45% or TAMS?
Milking, cooling, pumping and water heating use power in daylight, which suits solar. We’ll help you choose the right grant.
| Scheme | SEAI non-domestic grant | TAMS 3 solar (DAFM) |
|---|---|---|
| Grant rate | Up to 45% of cost (banded), max €325,200 | 60% of eligible cost, on DAFM reference costs |
| Chance of approval | Open to every eligible applicant | About 1 in 10 recent solar applications were selected |
| What it covers | Solar PV for the farm business | On-farm use only; the farmhouse is excluded |
| Batteries | Not mentioned on SEAI’s page; we’ll confirm | Up to 50% of the panel kWp |
| Deadline | New applications until 6 July 2027 | Tranche 14 closes 4 December 2026 |
From seai.ie and published DAFM tranche information, checked 13 October 2026. You’d normally fund a project under one scheme, so talk to us before you apply to either.

What we look at on a farm
- Twelve months of bills, and when in the day you use the power.
- Three-phase supply and the ESB connection (NC6 or NC7).
- Roof space on sheds, or a ground-mount on land.
- Hot water for the dairy: an eddi diverter can heat it with spare solar.
